Indonesia earthquake hits 6.0 magnitude

JAKARTA, July 6 (UPI) -- A magnitude 6.1 earthquake rattled Indonesia Saturday, just three days after a major quake in the region caused 35 deaths, seismologists said.

The U.S. Geological Survey said Saturday's quake struck off Sumatra about 122 miles from the town of Bengkulu.

Officials told CNN there was no tsunami threat but the shaking was felt in the areas of Sumatra and Aceh affected by the 6.4 quake that hit earlier in the week. Nearly 300 people were injured in that event.

It was not clear whether Saturday's quake was an aftershock of the 6.4 quake.
