Student in Scotland missing since failing honors exams

EDINBURGH, Scotland, July 5 (UPI) -- A Russian physics student in Scotland has been missing since being told three weeks ago she would not receive an honors degree, police said.

Yulia Solodyankina, 21, has not been seen since June 7, the day after she was informed her degree from Edinburgh University would be "ordinary," rather than "honors," the newspaper The Scotsman reported Friday.

A friend, who asked not to be named, said Solodyankina had not passed her fourth year exams, indicating she would not graduate from the university with honors.

Her boyfriend, engineering student Antoine Dao, 21, said she had been "very stressed" during her examinations.

Solodyankina was last seen on camera at a Glasgow, Scotland, bus station, the newspaper said.

Police were focusing their search on the Scottish highlands and northern islands, which she and her mother visited in April, the report said.
