CAPE TOWN, South Africa, July 3 (UPI) -- The grandson of former South African President Nelson Mandela has lost a battle over the remains of several family members, a South African court ruled.

The court has ordered Mandla Mandela to return the remains of three of the ex-president's children to the family graveyard in Qunu, the BBC reported Wednesday.

Mandela's grandson moved the remains to his nearby homestead as part of a plan to open a heritage center dedicated to his grandfather.

Family members objected to the plan and went to court to force Mandla to return the remains to the family plot.

The battle continued as Nelson Mandela remained critically ill in a Cape Town hospital with a lung infection.
