Egyptian Princess Fawzia, first wife of Iran's shah, dies at 92

CAIRO, July 3 (UPI) -- Egyptian Princess Fawzia Fuad, the first wife of the late shah of Iran, has died, her family announced on social media. She was 92.

Her nephew, King Fuad II, Egypt's last king before being deposed in 1953, said the princess died Tuesday, Euronews reported. The family said she would be buried in Cairo.

Princess Fawazia became the queen of Iran after marrying Mohammad Reza Pahlavi in 1939. They divorced nine years later and she married Egyptian army officer Ismail Chirine in Egypt in 1949.
