Armed men surround Libyan ministry in Tripoli

TRIPOLI, Libya, July 3 (UPI) -- Several hundred heavily armed men surrounded the Interior Ministry complex in the Libyan capital of Tripoli, The Libya Herald reported.

A Herald source said there were no staff members inside the ministry when the gunmen arrived and fired their weapons into the air, prompting guards to withdraw.

It was reported the gunmen called for the interior minister to be removed and all armed groups to be cleared out of Tripoli.

A team from the ministry was sent to negotiate with the gunmen.

The source told the Herald by the time the negotiators arrived, it appeared the gunmen had left.
