KHARKOV, Ukraine, July 1 (UPI) -- Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko remains in stable health condition in a Kharkov, Ukraine, clinic, the clinic's physician said.

Tymoshenko, 52, was sentenced to seven years in prison in 2011 for abusing her position when she helped broker a natural gas deal with Russian company Gazprom. She has spent the past year in the Kharkov clinic with spinal disc issues, undergoing treatment recommended by the Berlin clinic Charite, Russia's ITAR-Tass news agency reported.

Her daughter Yevgenia earlier said the Berlin doctors reported Tymoshenko was in critical condition and in need of surgery.

"In line with the prescriptions of the German specialists, the patient is undergoing rehabilitation treatment such as massage and exercise therapy," Kharkov clinic physician Mikhail Afanasyev said.
