MANZANILLO, Mexico, June 30 (UPI) -- Tropical Storm Dalila strengthened slightly during the day Sunday as it churned northwestward in the Pacific Ocean off Mexico, forecasters said.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami, which issued a tropical storm warning for Mexico's southwest coast, said in its 5 p.m. PDT advisory that Dalila was producing sustained winds of 45 miles per hour up to 35 miles from its center. That is up from 40 mph early in the day.
The storm, which was heading to the northwest at 9 mph, was situated 175 miles south of Manzanillo, the center said.
A tropical storm warning was issued for the southwest coast of Mexico from Punta San Telmo to La Fortuna, meaning storm conditions are expected in the area within 36 hours.
The Hurricane Center issued a tropical storm watch for the coast from north of La Fortuna to Cabo Corrientes, meaning storm conditions are expected within 48 hours.
Dalila was expected to stay on its current track into early Monday, then slow down and turn to the west-northwest Tuesday. The storm is forecast to gain some strength during the next two days.
