The 42-year-old Whitehorse man, whose name had not been released, died Saturday afternoon in Wood Lake between Kelowna and Vernon in British Columbia's Okanagan Country, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.
Police said he went into the water to rescue his two sons and another boy, ages 9-11, who were struggling in a strong current created by Vernon Creek.
While the boys were rescued by people in a nearby paddle boat, the man slipped below the surface. His body was recovered a few hours later.
