Hamas: Israel not likely to start war on Gaza Strip

GAZA, June 29 (UPI) -- A Palestinian official said Saturday it's not likely Israel will start another war on the Gaza Strip, but that Israel may be involved in conflicts elsewhere.

Salah Bardawil, a senior official with Hamas, the majority Palestinian political party, told Palestine's Ma'an news agency Israel would likely get involved elsewhere in the Middle East after it "obtained a green light from the [United States]."

Bardawil said the United States and Israel are looking for a way to show off Israel's military power, which it would not be able to do through a war on the Gaza Strip.

The Hamas official said U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry showed a bias toward Israel.

"Kerry isn't managing a crisis, but rather siding with Israel. He doesn't even have in mind that he should address the issue justly," Bardawil said.

He said Washington "has other priorities which are much more important than the Palestinian issue, especially because the [United States] is confident that Israel is superior militarily, and because Arab countries are busy with internal conflicts."
