BAGHDAD, June 29 (UPI) -- A series of bombings at public places in Iraq killed at least 17 people and wounded dozens of others, officials said.
Bombs were detonated Friday at several cafes in Sunni Arab neighborhoods in Baghdad, killing a barber and injuring nine other people, The Independent reported.
Also Friday, two car bombs killed 12 people and wounded 25 in the central city of Baquba. An explosion near a cafe in Adhamiyah killed four people and injured at least 12 others.
Bombings were also reported in the town of Jbela.
RIA Novosti reported 22 people were killed in the blasts.
Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, recommended this week the U.S. government send training teams to Iraq and speed up arms sales to strengthen Iraq's military, The Independent said.
"We welcome this kind of co-operation and we consider it a part of the existing agreement between us," a spokesman for Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said. "Because of the high risks the region faces, I think there should be bigger co-operation and co-ordination between all countries threatened by terrorism."
