Villagers, military police clash in Turkey

KAYACIK, Turkey, June 28 (UPI) -- Villagers in Turkey's Diyarbakir province, trying to prevent construction of a military police facility, clashed with security forces, news reports said Friday.

The Hurryiet Daily News reported residents of the village of Kayacik in the Lice district of Diyarbakir held a demonstration to halt construction of an additional military police building and set several tents on fire. Police used tear gas against the demonstrators, it said.

Several people were injured as protesters threw stones and homemade incendiary devices, and police fired warning shots, the newspaper said.
