SYDNEY, June 26 (UPI) -- Charges were filed against an Australian woman for a racist incident captured on a smartphone and uploaded to YouTube, police in Sydney said.

The exposure aided authorities in locating the 55-year-old woman and filing charges against her, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

Police said the incident occurred April 17 on a bus in Sydney.

A woman sitting several seats behind an Asian student used racist language and physical threats against the teenager.

After seeing the video, thousands of people contacted police and called for the woman's arrest.

She was located this week and charged with using offensive language.

A court appearance is set for August.

Police had not released her name.
