MANCHESTER, England, June 26 (UPI) -- One of England's most notorious serial killers will try to kill himself if he is returned to prison. a lawyer for a psychiatric hospital said Wednesday.
Eleanor Grey, representing Ashworth Hospital, told a tribunal considering Ian Brady's mental status Brady remains a danger to himself, Sky News reported.
She said he displays paranoid beliefs, including saying the government is listening in to him.
"There is an element of nostalgia in his attitude to prison as well as the grass always being greener somewhere else," Grey said.
Brady was sentenced to life in prison for the "Moors murders" in the 1960s. He and his girlfriend, Myra Hindley, killed five children and teenagers, burying the bodies on a moor outside Manchester.
He has been hospitalized since 1985. While Brady claims to have been on hunger strike for years, witnesses during the hearing suggest he makes himself food.
Brady's lawyers say he suffers from a personality disorder but is not psychotic and receives no benefit from being hospitalized.
Hindley died in prison in 2002.
