Nordic Choice Hotels bans porn channels

June 25, 2013 at 9:49 AM   |   Comments

OSLO, Norway, June 25 (UPI) -- Nordic Choice Hotels said Tuesday it has removed pornography from its television channels in all the company's 168 properties.

"We believe it is a natural part of our social responsibility to not support an industry that contributes to trafficking or other forms of trafficking," Torgeir Silseth, Nordic Choice Hotels CEO, said in a statement.

The decision is the result of the company's partnership with UNICEF and the recent adoption of a zero tolerance policy against prostitution.

The company received negative responses about its decision on Twitter, The Local.se said.

Some Twitter users pointed out an Internet ban would be needed to completely exclude pornography.

"We obviously don't have the power to close the Internet and neither is that the solution," Nordic Choice Hotels responded.

Other hotel chains, including Best Western, have adopted a similar policy.
