SANYA, China, June 23 (UPI) -- Tropical Storm Bebinca made landfall in the coastal regions in south China, bringing heavy rainfall that will likely last through Tuesday, forecasters said.

The storm disrupted 147 flights arriving or departing from China's coastal regions, leaving more than 8,000 passengers stranded, China's Xinhua news agency reported.

Bebinca made landfall just after 11 a.m. over Qionghai City on Hainan Island, Xinhua said. The area is expected to receive between about 12 and 24 inches.

Accuweather.com reported that the rain, which could last through Tuesday, were accompanied by winds of 40-50 mph, causing localized flooding.

Northern Vietnam and Loas are also expected to be affected by the storm, with Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, being hit the hardest on Monday, Accuweather said.
