More arrests at Turkey's Taksim Square

June 23, 2013 at 10:20 AM

ISTANBUL, Turkey, June 23 (UPI) -- Turkish police said they detained more than a dozen protesters during a weekend demonstration in Istanbul's Taksim Square.

The arrests, which totaled 15, occurred as riot police cleared the downtown square that has become a focal point of anti-government protests in recent weeks.

The detainees allegedly tried to enter the square in defiance of police orders, police told Today's Zaman. They were whisked away to a nearby police station for questioning.
