At least two dead in flooding in Alberta

CALGARY, Alberta, June 22 (UPI) -- Extensive flooding in Alberta has killed two people and may have taken a third life as well, Canadian authorities said.

Torrential rains hitting southern Alberta have caused rivers to swell and flood several cities, including Calgary, CNN reported.

Two people died after getting swept away in the Highwood River in the town of High River, officials said.

A third person is believed to have been swept into the river, Royal Canadian Mounted Police Staff Sgt. Brian Jones told CNN.

"There have been reports of what is believed to be a third person in the river, and that individual is believed to be deceased," Jones said.

Efforts to find and recover the body were delayed because the river is still dangerous, Jones said.
