VATICAN CITY, June 19 (UPI) -- Details of a miracle attributed to Pope John Paul II, clearing his way to sainthood, will be announced within several weeks, a member of the Vatican said.

The Holy See has not revealed the nature of the miracle, but Italian media report it concerns the healing of a Costa Rican woman cured of a severe brain injury after her family began praying to the memory of John Paul II, who died in 2005, the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph reported Wednesday.

John Paul II was beatified, the first step toward being declared a saint, in May 2011, after a French nun's recovery from Parkinson's disease was attributed to praying for the late pope's intercession, the Catholic Church maintains.

A second miracle is required for sainthood, and it occurred the day of John Paul's beatification ceremony, the newspaper said, adding the canonization ceremony will like take place in October.
