BEIJING, June 19 (UPI) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping says the Communist Party of China needs to clean up its act to keep public support.

Xi announced Tuesday that the party is launching a campaign to instill good habits in its members and officials, Xinhua, the official government news agency, reported. He said the party must be dedicated to "serving the people, being down-to-earth, upright and corruption-free"

China remains a one-party state with Xi both head of the Communist Party and head of state. The party voted for the campaign in April.
