Michelle Obama, daughters lunch with Bono at Irish pub

DUBLIN, Ireland, June 18 (UPI) -- U.S. first lady Michelle Obama and her daughters enjoyed lunch at a Dublin-area pub Tuesday with Bono during a whirlwind visit to Ireland.

Before they arrived at Finnegans pub in Dalkey, County Dublin, the first lady, Sasha and Mallia visited the Wicklow Mountains National Park, a few miles south of Dublin, The Irish Times reported. They toured early medieval monastic sites in the park, escorted by George McClafferty, a local guide.

After lunch, Obama, Sasha and Mallia headed north to join President Obama in Northern Ireland as the Group of Eight summit wrapped up.

Finnegans was closed to the public during lunch, although members of the local population were there when Obama and her daughters arrived. The pub has hosted a number of celebrities, including writer Salman Rushdie, movie stars Mel Gibson and Penelope Cruz, and the late Maeve Binchy, an Irish writer who lived nearby and was a regular with her husband.
