PUL-I-ALAM, Afghanistan, June 11 (UPI) -- The Taliban has released a Kyrgyz hostage who was captured in April when his helicopter made an emergency landing in eastern Afghanistan, officials said.
The man, who had served as a crewman, was taken hostage with nine other foreigners and an Afghan translator who were on board the helicopter.
The Taliban had previously released eight Turkish hostages, and called the gesture a symbol of friendship to a fellow Muslim nation.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said the group is still deciding the fate of the last two hostages, the Russian pilot and the Afghan translator, Stars and Stripes reported.
The helicopter was taking construction materials from eastern Afghanistan to Kabul when it made an emergency landing.
No security was on board.
