Mumbai building collapses, at least four dead

MUMBAI, June 11 (UPI) -- Part of a five-story building in Mumbai collapsed, killing at least four people, and Indian authorities said more people may be trapped in the rubble.

The rear portion of the building, which is partly residential in the suburb of Mahim, came down late Monday evening as heavy monsoon rains pounded India's financial capital and port city.

Rescue efforts continued Tuesday to find those trapped under the rubble.

CNN reported at least six people had been rescued and quoted a city official as saying four people had died.

The Times of India reported the building is a decades-old structure. It quoted some residents as saying its northeastern part collapsed around 8.30 p.m., trapping many people.

"We cannot rule out the possibility of casualties going up," a senior fire official told the newspaper.
