Fire destroys dozens of shops in Afghan capital

June 11, 2013 at 8:23 AM   |   Comments

KABUL, Afghanistan, June 11 (UPI) -- Fire swept through a market in the Afghan capital destroying dozens of shops in the Lycee Maryam area of Kabul, officials said Tuesday.

The blaze broke out late Monday and it took firemen until early

Tuesday to put it out, Khaama Press reported.

There were no immediate reports of casualties and the cause of the fire is said to be under investigation.

Last year a fire in the capital destroyed some 600 shops.

Kabul has a poor fire safety reputation, Khaama Press said.
