TARIFA, Spain, June 10 (UPI) -- Spanish police said they arrested an Algerian man trying to enter the country illegally by hiding near the propellers of a ferry bound for the city of Tarifa.
The 48-year-old man, whose name was not reported, hid on the right side of the boat, which left from the Moroccan city of Tangiers Sunday, police told TheLocal.es.
He had planned to jump into the water and swim to shore once the ferry neared the Spanish coast, police said.
Spanish law enforcement officials spotted the man and arrested him under the country's immigration law, the news website said.
Spanish police said they have arrested 60 people trying to illegally enter the country in 2013.
