U.S. drone strike in Pakistan said to kill 7 militants

June 8, 2013 at 5:48 PM

ISLAMABAD, June 8 (UPI) -- A U.S. drone strike has killed at least seven militants in the tribal region of Pakistan, an intelligence official told The New York Times.

The identities of the dead were not immediately known, but the security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, described them as militants, the newspaper reported Friday.

The official said three missiles hit a house in the village of Mangroti in the Shawal area of North Waziristan bordering Afghanistan that is considered a stronghold for militants.

The strikes came hours after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced the members of his new cabinet.

During his election campaign, Sharif had criticized the United States for its use of drones to kill militants.
