Russian health official says 68 F too hot for protest demonstrations

MOSCOW, June 8 (UPI) -- The Russian health minister is warning people they shouldn't take part in a scheduled protest because of the hot weather forecast, a balmy 68 degrees in Moscow.

The anti-Kremlin protest, centered on the arrest of several individuals in Bolotnaya Square in May 2012, is scheduled for Wednesday. It has received official government approval, RIA Novosti said Saturday.

That doesn't mean Health Minister Gennady Onishchenko thinks it's a good idea.

"Judging by the weather forecast, the temperature is set to rise above 20 degrees [Celsius, 68 Fahrenheit] on June 12. It'll be hot. Given the humidity, this is particularly physically stressful," Onishchenko said. "You should dress appropriately for the weather, cover your head and make sure you have water with you. People who are unwell or have colds should not take part in mass events."

Onishchenko gave similar advice about a protest in December -- except that it was too cold, not too hot, to be outside.
