LONDON, June 6 (UPI) -- Britain's Prince Philip is scheduled to undergo an exploratory operation at London Clinic Friday, Buckingham Palace announced.

The 91-year-old duke of Edinburgh was admitted Thursday "following abdominal investigations," the palace said.

Queen Elizabeth II's husband did not attend Monday's gala for the Royal National Institute of Blind People because he wasn't feeling well; however, he did participate in a service marking the 60th anniversary of the monarch's coronation Tuesday.

"His Royal Highness the duke of Edinburgh has been admitted to the London Clinic for an exploratory operation following abdominal investigations," palace officials said in a statement. "He is expected to stay in hospital for up to two weeks."

Philip turns 92 Monday.
