7 die, 17 injured in bus crash near Mecca

MECCA, Saudi Arabia, June 6 (UPI) -- Seven Egyptians died and 17 others were seriously injured when a bus overturned near Mecca in Saudi Arabia, authorities said.

The bus was traveling on a coastal road when the accident occurred.

The victims were on their way to Mecca for a pilgrimage, Ahram Online said.

The fatalities included five women and two men, the Egyptian news agency MENA reported.

Authorities said the injured were taken to two nearby hospitals.

One of the injured victims was in critical condition.
