BEIJING, June 5 (UPI) -- A 5-magnitude earthquake rattled Qinghai province in northwest China Wednesday, but no casualties were reported, local officials said.
The China Earthquake Networks Center said the epicenter was about, 2 1/2 miles deep, China's state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Officials said the earthquake occurred in a sparsely populated area in the Dachaidan district in the Mongolian-Tibetan autonomous prefecture.
Xinhua said coal miners working near the epicenter were evacuated to safety.
