MEXICO CITY, June 4 (UPI) -- Mexican police say they are investigating the disappearance of 11 people more than a week ago from a bar in Mexico City.

Relatives say their family members were kidnapped, but police say they have found no evidence of an abduction, CNN reported Tuesday.

All of the missing disappeared from an after-hours bar called Heaven in Mexico City's "Zona Rosa," or "Pink Zone," between 10 a.m. and noon May 26. The area in central Mexico City is populated with bars, nightclubs and upscale restaurants.

A man who told relatives of the missing he had escaped from the kidnapping said the group was forced into sports utility vehicles by armed men.

"The [bar] owner apparently told them that there was going to be a police operation and turned the lights off," said Maria del Carmen Zamudio, the relative of a missing bar patron. "He told them to get out, and armed men in black SUVs were already waiting for them outside."

Neither police nor family members have indicated if any of the missing persons were related.

Police say no such police operation took place, and they have found no evidence of a kidnapping. They are treating the incident as a missing persons case.

Rodolfo Rios Garza, the Mexico City district attorney, said security cameras at the bar were not working, but investigators have checked city cameras installed in the neighborhood and found no evidence of a break-in or a kidnapping at the bar.

The bar is closed for the investigation.
