A survey by the Ministry of Education found at least 90 school buildings, mostly in Taichung and Nantou counties, were damaged in the Sunday temblor. An estimated $344,058 in damage was done to the schools, Taiwan's official Central News Agency reported Monday.
Lugu Junior High School was closed Monday due to damage, the ministry said, and at least three people were injured on campuses in Nantou County.
The quake was centered 15 miles southeast of the town of Buli in central Taiwan at a depth of about 8.7 miles.
A tremor that had a magnitude of 5 was felt throughout Taiwan after the initial quake, the National Fire Agency said.
In most parts of the country, the earthquake was felt at an intensity of a magnitude 3, the Seismology Center said.
