June 3, 2013 at 7:49 AM

KABUL, Afghanistan, June 3 (UPI) -- An explosion triggered by a suicide bomber killed 10 schoolchildren and two NATO soldiers in eastern Afghanistan's Paktia province Monday, officials said.

At least 16 others were injured, Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said.

Provincial security chief Zalmai Orya Khel said the bomber, riding a motorbike, detonated his explosives near a convoy of coalition troops in the main bazaar of the Samkanai district, Khaama Press reported.

The two soldiers were with NATO's International Security Assistance Force, CNN reported.
