Man sentenced to life in prison in kidnap, murder of Welsh girl

MOLD, Wales, May 30 (UPI) -- A former slaughterhouse worker was sentenced to life in prison Thursday for the kidnapping and murder of a 5-year-old Welsh girl last fall, officials say.

Mark Bridger, 47, had been convicted earlier in the day of murder, abduction and unlawfully disposing of and concealing the body of April Jones, The Guardian reported.

In sentencing Bridger, Justice Griffith Williams described him as "a pathological and glib liar."

Prosecutors had charged that Bridger abducted the girl Oct. 1 while she rode her bicycle near her home in Machynlleth. 1. He killed her before burying or disposing of her body.

Her body has never been recovered but Bridger is reported to have told a priest while in prison awaiting trial that he had thrown the body into a river.

Police say the girl was killed in Bridger's home and her body cut up and disposed of in several places.
