TORONTO, May 27 (UPI) -- A staff member of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford's was interviewed by police about a tip linking a homicide to Ford's alleged drug use, sources told the Globe and Mail.
The Toronto newspaper said Monday two sources confirmed the individual reported the tip after the newspaper The Toronto Star and the website Gawker.com claimed video exists of the mayor smoking crack cocaine, adding the staffer knew the address where the video could be found, and the video originally belonged to a person who may have been killed to obtain it.
The video clip was allegedly offered to The Star and to Gawker by men involved in the drug trade, The Globe and Mail said, adding both media reports included an alleged photo of Ford, standing with a man believed to be Anthony Smith, 21, who was shot to death in Toronto in March.
After staying silent about the allegations, Ford said Friday, "I do not use crack cocaine, nor am I an addict of crack cocaine," he said on his weekly radio program, "There's no video, so you can't comment on something that doesn't exist."
