Iranian unmanned aircraft found in Bahrain

MANAMA, Bahrain, May 22 (UPI) -- An Iranian unmanned aircraft was discovered in northern Bahrain near Saudi Arabia, the Bahraini interior ministry said in a statement.

In the statement issued late Tuesday, Interior Minister Sheik Rashid bin Abdullah al-Khalifa condemned Iranian spying efforts and accused Tehran of interfering with the internal affairs of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

The minister expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabian officials for investigating the matter and identifying a spy ring working for Iranian intelligence, Gulf News reported.

He also said that the ministry had discovered a terror cell whose members had been linked to Iran and trained in the use of weapons to attack public figures.

The official Chinese news agency Xinhua reported the aircraft had been seen flying over the region.

It was unclear whether the drone had crashed, landed or was brought down in the border area.
