Ontario shaken by 5.0 earthquake

OTTAWA, May 17 (UPI) -- Parts of Ontario were shaken Friday by a minor earthquake that seismologists at the U.S. Geological Survey said measured 5.0 in magnitude.

The quake was centered 15 miles northeast of Shawville, Ont., and struck at 9:43 a.m. EDT, the USGS said.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. said the shaking was felt in eastern Ontario but had no immediate reports of damage. The CBC said Earthquake Canada pegged the quake's magnitude at 4.8. with an epicenter in the Braeside area.
