Libya: At least 25 bodies may be buried in mass grave site

TRIPOLI, Libya, May 16 (UPI) -- As many as 25 bodies have been found in an area of mass graves in the northern Libyan city of Tawergha, officials say.

A Libyan official said three graves had been discovered and six bodies exhumed so far, the Libya Herald reported Wednesday.

The bodies were found handcuffed and wearing either military or civilian clothing, said Hamed Malki, media manager for the Ministry of Martyrs and Missing People.

Malki said researchers had not yet determined if the remains were those of rebels, troops of Moammar Gadhafi, or civilians. One grave is believed to contain the bodies of four members of one family.

The remains will be matched against 12,000 DNA samples of living relatives of people who went missing during the 2011 revolution.
