Bodies of missing Spaniards found dead in car trunk in Mexico

CULIACAN, Mexico, May 14 (UPI) -- Two Spaniards en route to a culinary festival in the northern Mexican state of Sinaloa were found dead in a car dumped in a canal, officials said.

Family members said Fernando Carmona Romero, 57, and Jose Montoya Losada, 58, emigrated to Mexico several months ago and disappeared May 5 while traveling to the food event, ThinkSpain reported Monday.

Police said they found the bodies of the men in a canal in a sparsely populated area outside of the city of Culiacan, the capital of Sinaloa. The bodies, found in the trunk of their rented vehicle, were bound and had multiple shotgun wounds.

The men had been selling clothing and were on their way north from Guadalajara to trade their items, ThinkSpain said.

Police are investigating.
