CAIRO, May 13 (UPI) -- The Egyptian trial of a former aide to deposed Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi was adjourned again Monday, a judge said.
Ahmed Gadhaf al-Dam, a Libyan-born Egyptian national who moved to Cairo to seek political asylum, was convicted of corruption charges and ordered to serve 30 days in an Egyptian jail. Ahram Online said the term has expired but al-Dam remains in custody on charges he tried to kill the police who arrested him and was spying and harboring unlicensed weapons.
Police who searched his home said al-Dam had recording equipment and guns hidden there.
Al-Dam said the items were not his and denied the charges. His trial is scheduled to begin Wednesday.
Libya has demanded al-Dam be extradited but a judge denied the request when it was revealed al-Dam had come to Egypt seeking asylum.
