Ex-Energy Minister Huhne released from jail

LONDON, May 13 (UPI) -- Disgraced former British Energy Secretary Chris Huhne was released from jail Monday, calling the experience "humbling and sobering."

Huhne, who challenged for leadership of Britain's Liberal Democrats before his fall from grace, served 62 days of an eight month sentence after his scorned ex-wife, Vicky Pryce, said she'd taken the fall for several speeding tickets Huhne had received.

The attempt backfired for Pryce when both she and Huhne, who divorced Pryce and took up with an aide, were convicted of perverting the course of justice and sentenced to jail time.

Huhne thanked supporters who'd written him letters in jail and expressed his remorse over the whole ordeal, The Daily Telegraph said.

"I would just like to say once again, as you know from the night I was sentenced, I said that I was very sorry for what I had done. It has been a humbling and sobering experience.

He will wear an ankle monitor for the remainder of his sentence.

Pryce, an acclaimed economist, who was also released Monday, said through her lawyer she's ready to return to her work and was looking forward to returning home and drinking a good cup of coffee.
