ELCHE, Spain, May 13 (UPI) -- Police in Spain and Britain said they have busted a hashish ring and seized 322 kilograms of the drug prior to its sale and shipment.

Britain's Serious Organized Crime Agency and the Spanish national police said they had been tracking a drug gang known across the United Kingdom when members came to Spain in January. Since then, police allege the gang has been hiding drugs inside electrical transformers and shipping them from Spain into Britain, TheLocal.se said Monday.

Nine people were arrested, seven in Spain and two in Britain. Police said they swooped in because the massive shipment, equal to about 710 pounds of the drug, was about to be moved from Elche, Spain, outside Valencia, to its destination somewhere in the United Kingdom.
