About 50 other people were injured in the Sunday night blast and some of them were reported in serious condition in area hospitals, raising concerns the death told could rise, The Nation reported.
The suicide bomber set off the explosives in his vehicle near the home of Mushtaq Sukhera, police inspector general of the violence-hit province but he escaped unhurt, the Pakistani newspaper said. The report said the blast damaged the police official's home and others nearby.
Dawn newspaper reported a child was among the six killed. Other reports said at least two police officers were also killed.
The province has been the scene of much sectarian, militant and separatist violence for years.
No group had yet claimed the responsibility for the attack, police said.
