ASADBAD, Afghanistan, May 12 (UPI) -- One Afghan child was killed and several other people were injured by missiles fired by Pakistani forces, Afghan officials said.

The cross-border shelling took place Saturday night in residential areas in Asadbad in Kunar province, provincial governor spokesman Wasifullah Wasifi said.

Approximately 30 missiles were fired into Shegal district and another 35 were fired into Sarkano district, Khaama Press reported.

The Pakistani military has been shelling Afghanistan's eastern provinces for the past year, although the violence has intensified over the past two weeks, Khaama Press said.
