China mine blast kills 12

ANSHUN, China, May 11 (UPI) -- A blast at a coal mine in China's Guizhou province Friday killed 12 workers and injured two others, officials said.

An investigation into the incident at the Dashan coal mine in Pingba county was under way, Xinhua reported.

More than 1,300 people were killed in mine accidents in China in 2012, many the result of a failure to follow safety protocols.
