Amanda Knox says she will return to Italy if necessary

PARIS, May 11 (UPI) -- Accused killer Amanda Knox said she would return to Italy to stand trial for murder if her legal team tells her to.

Knox, who had her conviction in the slaying of Meredith Kercher overturned on appeal, said in the French edition of Elle magazine she would agree to go back to Italy from the United States to face retrial.

"I've already testified. My presence is not necessary," Knox told the magazine. "But if my lawyers feel that it's necessary to go, I'll go."

Italy's ANSA news service said Knox said publicly earlier this week she was afraid to back to Italy.

Knox had been convicted in an Italian court and sentenced to 26 years in prison for the 2007 slaying of her British roommate in Perugia. Her conviction was overturned in 2011.
