ANKARA, Turkey, May 11 (UPI) -- A report from Turkey's National Police Department found that 80 percent of guns seized by police from 2010 to 2012 were unregistered.

The report also found that the number of handmade, not manufactured, guns seized had increased in 2012, Today's Zaman reported Saturday.

Between 2010 and 2012, homemade guns accounted for 33 percent of all guns seized by police. However, in just 2012, 47 percent of guns seized were handmade, suggesting that the number of homemade guns is on the rise, the report said.

Handmade guns increased the most in the Black Sea region and the Southeast of Turkey, the report said.

Police also carried out the most operations that led to the seizure of guns in the Black Sea region's Ordu province.
