Teens rescued from alleged 'baby factory' in Nigeria

LAGOS, Nigeria, May 10 (UPI) -- Police found 17 teenage girls, all of them made pregnant by the same young man, in an illegal orphanage in southern Nigeria, officials said.

Eleven children were also found in the home, Lagos newspaper Vanguard reported. Investigators believe they were to be sold as child workers or prostitutes.

The girls, who ranged in age from 14 to 17, said a 23-year-old man, identified only as Oyibo, had gotten them pregnant, police said Thursday. He was in custody and police said he had admitted having had sex with all the teenagers.

Police were searching for the owner of the Ahamefula Motherless Babies Home in Umuaka. She was described as a middle-aged woman known as "Madame One Thousand."

The teenagers were all suffering from malnutrition and had not been properly fed, police said.
