TORONTO, May 8 (UPI) -- A Canadian teacher who posted graphic sexual pamphlets on a school bulletin board has been removed from the classroom, Ontario education officials say.

The material was discovered Friday in a classroom for students in grades 7 and 8, the Toronto Star reported. Officials say it was information on oral sex written for gay adults and totally inappropriate for school-age children.

Principal Marc Mullan of the Delta Senior Alternative School in Toronto said in a letter to parents the teacher was sent home while the incident is investigated.

The incident quickly became part of an ongoing battle between the Liberal provincial government and conservative groups over sex education, the Star said. The government has been trying to update the sex education curriculum, which now uses material that is 15 years old.

Lisa MacLeod, a Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario education critic, blamed the "ethos of this Liberal government" for the teacher thinking the material might be appropriate.

"The materials that are being used are totally inappropriate and are in no way connected to the Ontario health and phys ed curriculum," Provincial Education Minister Liz Sandals said.
