CAIRO, May 8 (UPI) -- An Egyptian court upheld Wednesday the acquittals of 25 Mubarak-era officials accused of killing and injuring protesters during a 2011 attack in Tahrir Square.
In its ruling, the Court of Cassation rejected an appeal by prosecutors of the acquittals of the group, who had been charged with killing 11 protesters and injuring more than 2,000, Ahram Online reported.
During the so-called "Battle of the Camel," snipers also shot at demonstrators from the tops of surroundings buildings.
The October acquittal triggered public outrage and mass protests were held to demand that President Mohamed Morsi order a retrial.
Former Parliament Speaker Ahmed Fathi Sorour was among the defendants, as were the former head of the Shura Council and the former minister of manpower.
