MEXICO CITY, May 7 (UPI) -- At least 13 people were killed, and at least as many more injured, Tuesday when a speeding tanker truck crashed and exploded near Mexico City, officials say.

The truck, which was carrying gas, was speeding when the driver lost control and crashed into several houses and cars, CNN reported.

At least 20 homes were damaged and 15 vehicles burned when the truck exploded and burst into flames in the city of Ecatepec.

At least two of the dead were children, said Salvador Neme, secretary for citizen security in Mexico state.
